1973 Catalina Safari (pictures below)

Note: Both the Catalina Safari and the Grand Safari had steel sides standard and woodgrain paneling as an option.  The Catalina Safari had the same interior as the other Catalinas, but it had a 400(2bbl) engine (rather than a 350) standard.  The Grand Safari had the same interior as the Grand Ville, but it had a smaller standard engine (the Grand Ville had the 455(4bbl) standard but the Grand Safari only had a 400 standard (4bbl)). The Bonneville did not have a wagon model, it had a 400 engine standard.  All models could be optioned with larger engines.  The difference between the Catalina Safaris and the Grand Safaris changed in later model years.  In some years all Catalina Safari's had steel sides and had Catalina interiors, but they could be optioned with a higher grade interior.  Grand Safari's (sometimes called Bonneville Safaris) in those years had woodgrain or two-toned paint standard, but had an interior that had Catalina upholstery, but upgraded door panels and dashboard.  To get the upgraded seat  (in some years you could only upgrade it to a Bonneville seat, not a Grand Ville/Bonneville Brougham seat) you had to order it as an option.

Note: The clamshell tailgate on these wagons had a power window standard, but the tailgate was manual, though it could be power operated as an option.  The idea of the clamshell was discontinued because when such a wagon was rear-ended, even in a minor collision, it was very difficult to get the tailgate to properly operate again.
